Cindy Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American artist born in Denver where she now works and resides in Dallas, Texas. After a few illustration jobs during her college career, Cindy switched her focus to gallery work where she exhibited in 500X Gallery, Moody Performance Hall, Latino Cultural Center, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, and Bath House Cultural Center. Her work is inspired by the cinema of the subconscious, the woman her mother could have been given the freedoms of her generation, being a daughter of a refugee, layers of ambiguity of the identity, fading memories, and themes surrounded by her mother’s mental illness. With a splash of vulnerability, floral etching, and the interlocking layers of shadows, she uses the suspension of colorful drapery to surround her subjects
The world and our environment is chaotic, unpredictable, unstable - yet the human form is confined as it should be.
